Try these tips and remedies for infants who cry all night due to stomach ache or ear infection.

 

THE ARRIVAL of a child signifies the beginning of unbridled happiness in any house and with the crib come many unforgettable experiences for the new parents. When the few-months-old infant makes eye contact and smiles, it warms the hearts of elders and nothing is more disturbing to a parent than the child crying interminably at night.

Children under six months of age express their pain or colic by frequent bouts of crying. These episodes could occur a few hours everyday at a particular time for some days and the reason is not always apparent. Children with allergies of the food tract, commonly lactose intolerance, tend to have either vomiting due to gastro-oesophageal reflux causing heartburn, or diarrhoea and constipation alternatively.

Incarcerated flatus or inability to expel gas formed during digestion can cause colic too. Ear infection can cause crying.

Infants would cry if they are hungry, thirsty, tired, bored, over stimulated, or when it is too hot/ cold, or they need a diaper change.

Helpful tips

* Dilute milk products and avoid gas producing foods and eggs.

* Walk with baby's face down, baby's body across arm with hand under abdomen to apply gentle pressure.

* Take baby outside for a ride.

* Rub baby's tummy — experiment with massage techniques.

* Parents should avoid taking crying personally.

* Try to focus on easing discomfort.

* Learn to de-stress.

* Take a break from the child for about an hour a day.

* Accept elder's help.

Homoeopathic medicine has excellent remedies for colic. It also eases the discomfort and, when the cause is not found relieves the pain symptomatically.

Aconite will cure the fever and the crying due to it. Pulsatilla and Mag Carb will reduce the diarrhoea due to lactose intolerance. If constipation is the cause of crying, Nux Vomica will reduce it.

Sarsaparilla helps if urinary stones are the cause. Chamomilla cures any sort of colic and earache too. Jalapa will help infants if they happen to cry all night.
