Improving Lactation

Our Treatments

A lactating mother has the responsibility of nourishing her new-born.

The first bond between a mother and her child is breastfeeding as the infant is completely in the care of her mother. The primary benefit of lactation is nourishment of the child but there are many other unseen advantages.

Human digestion, development of the brain and growth in terms of physique are adequately imparted through mother's milk. It contains the right amount of water, lactose, amino acids and fatty acids to meet the energy requirements. This also encourages the growth of Lactobacillus or useful bacteria in the child's gut for digestion. The second most useful function is taken care by the macrophages and antibodies that counter any bacteria, fungi and the viruses. So a breast-fed child is at a lesser probability to have infections like recurrent nasal catarrh, bronchitis, pneumonitis, influenza, ear infections, measles etc. when compared to bottle-fed babies as mother's milk contains about a hundred components not found in any milk. It involves an effort of the child, sucking at the breast as the exercise helps the child in strengthening of the jaws and formation of straight and healthy teeth. The mother benefits as the uterus shrinks to its normal size and the periods too are delayed for a while as she develops an emotional and physical bonding with the baby. Later, she will have a lesser risk of developing breast cancer. A young mother should be careful of the food she eats as these could cause an allergy to the child through the milk. Foods like peanuts, citrus fruits, chocolates, caffeine in coffee and tea and certain condiments are highly allergenic and a mother should try to avoid them. At the same time she should nourish herself with foods rich in calcium apart from intake of foods like fruits and vegetables, wholegrain cereals and bread, eggs and beans and dairy foods like milk and cheese.

Deficiency & treatment:

However, there are instances where the "let down" reflex necessary for expression of milk does not get going in mothers who are under stress. Homoeopathic medicine has good remedies to improve the reflex.

If stress and restlessness are predominant Chamomilla will help. If it is due to deficient nutrition and assimilation of mother, Calc carb and Plumbum met restore. Sometimes without an apparent cause if there is deficiency, Pulsatilla, Bryonia, Lac caninum, Urtica urens improve the output.
