Dengue Fever

Our Treatments

Fever as such is a defense mechanism of the body that has geared up to the task of fighting an infection. It is recognition of the immune mechanism and keeps the viruses and bacteria at bay. If the infection becomes overwhelming the temperature can reach high about 102F and is a matter of concern apart from other symptoms like lack of sense of well being, confusion etc. One other infection which has become sort of endemic or remained in the population is the Dengue fever which can cause fever and many other complications if it is not checked right away.

Dengue is an illness caused by a virus and reaches man from another infected person by a mosquito bite. As such a person may get better after an infection but he remains a reservoir for the virus and is a likely cause of infection to others if he is bitten by a mosquito called Aeges aegypti. As such illnesses due to mosquito bites are worse in marshy season like the rainy season but this kind has adapted to the situation and can remain active year long and all it needs is a few puddles of water found enough in the household like the water in the old tires, buckets, alleys etc. Although the infection is worse in rainy seasons the little water it needs has made it dangerous in the urban areas.

Once infected the person may remain fine for about 5-8 days when symptoms seem to set in. There is a fever to start with and typical severe headaches confusing one with flu like illness. Such patients seem to respond very well immediately to medication and the fever subsides. The temperature rises again in the next four to five days only to cause a typical rash on the body called as the purpura. This fine rash could be associated with itching and more so in the palms and soles. Fair enough if the illness is at bay even at this juncture but the damage it can cause is immense. In the sense it causes a fall in the white blood cells and platelets that puts the infected individual at further risk of infection and a bleeding into the gums and other organs of the body. If unchecked it can lead to shock like syndrome which is the reason why the disease has to be curtailed immediately.

Primarily the prevention is of importance. To see that the breeding grounds of mosquitoes are eliminated and even if mosquitoes are around to see that enough barriers like mosquito nets are used during sleep and long sleeved clothing is worn during daytime. Once the infection sets in and is identified it is imperative it is treated appropriately. Rest and intake of fluids is of significance to prevent any complications. Homoeopathic Medicine has good remedies to abort the course of illness of Dengue with medication like Eupa perf, Gelsemium while Cinchona will help in early recuperation as it helps assimilation of fluids. Remedies like Crotalus horridus, Lachesis and Phos., help in seeing that circulatory disturbances are curtailed faster while a fall in WBC and platelets can be supplemented by administration of parenteral plasma infusion as and when necessary.
