Dizziness can be incapacitating and disabling but not a life-threatening symptom

A sensation of feeling faint or light-headedness or feeling weak or unsteady is termed as a spell of dizziness. If it involves a feeling as if everything around is spinning or moving it is called vertigo. Dizziness can be incapacitating and disabling but not life-threatening but more serious is the fact that during the phase of dizziness one could lose balance and there is a chance of fall and injury. The visual signals from the eyes to the brain give it an idea about how the body is placed in space and how it is moving while the sensory nerves in the skin, muscles and joints send messages to the brain about the body movements and position. The inner ear contains a fluid with sensory cilia or hair like structures all around and the movement of the liquid over those sensitive endings sends a message to the brain about the rotation of the head. These signals help the human body maintain balance and be upright. False sense of motion or spinning is the most troublesome symptom and is usually termed as vertigo. There is vertigo on change of position of the head especially in the aged and in individuals who have had an injury it is termed as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. If one encounters dizziness on moving the head, imbalance and unsteadiness while travelling associated with ringing sound in ears and headache it could be due to migraine which is one of the commonest causes of this problem. Low blood pressure in which the sudden drop could produce a sort of faintness in the person.

A sense of surroundings spinning around, loss of balance, unsteadiness, faintness, weakness, fatigue, difficulty in concentration, nausea, blurred vision for a few movement on sudden turning of the head are the usual symptoms of Vertigo. But if dizziness is associated with different kind of headache than usually experienced, hearing difficulty, blurred vision, speech impairment, weakness of arms of legs, loss of consciousness, falling or difficulty in walking, numbness of parts of the body and last but not the least chest pain or discomfort then it is imperative one needs medical attention at the earliest.

Homoeopathic medicine has good remedies to correct dizziness by addressing the cause.
